Analog Signal, Saying Goodbye

This is news to me. Vehicles are slated to lose their analog OnStar service.

This Detroit News (detnews.com) article states that an FCC ruling allowing cell phone companies to shut down their analog networks will impact OnStar service that uses analog signals. From what I read, there is no upgrade. Whose brilliant idea was that, I wonder?

Those cars already equipped with digital OnStar will not be impacted. Review your vehicles manual to confirm what type of signal your vehicle currently has or call your dealer. In the meantime OnStar has published this for it's customers: http://www.onstar.com/us_english/jsp/popup/adt.jsp
